Greater Houston Partnership to Lead Energy Security Discussion

Houston (PRWEB) March 13, 2009

President Obama recently said “America’s dependence on oil is one of the most serious threats that our nation has faced,” adding that there is no single issue “as fundamental to our future as energy.”

Polls show Americans overwhelmingly support energy independence. But how does America get there and when? And what technology will lead the way? Will it be biofuels? Or will it take a combination of many alternatives, such as solar, wind or nuclear power?

Some of the world’s most respected energy experts will be exploring answers to these and other questions during a daylong gathering in Houston, the Energy Capital of the World, as the Greater Houston Partnership once again takes center stage in leading the dialogue on energy policy by hosting “America’s Energy Future: Assessing Our Paths to Energy Security.” The forum will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Join us as we look for solutions to supply and demand challenges, infrastructure implications, and the role of technology and energy policy at the local and national levels. The event will also include a trade show expo and feature renowned speakers and captains of industry with expertise in a multitude of energy topics, including renewable and advanced fuels, nuclear and solar power and traditional fossil fuels.

Houston Mayor Bill White, formerly the Deputy Secretary of Energy during the Clinton administration, will serve as the luncheon speaker. He will make his first formal remarks on the current administration’s energy policy and his vision for Houston’s continual prominence as the world’s energy leader.

Panels will feature Walter D. Cruickshank, the Deputy Director of the United States Minerals Management Service; John Hofmeister, President of the Citizens for Affordable Energy & Chair of the Energy Collaborative Cluster Council for the Greater Houston Partnership; and Amy Myers Jaffe, the Wallace Associate Director of the Baker Institute for Rice University.

In keeping with the diverse energy culture of the Houston region, the Summit will also include views from Steven Winn, CEO of NRG Energy, and Liv Bargem Monica Stubholt, State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. The exchange of assorted viewpoints makes this year’s Summit a must attend.
