UC Irvine Partners with Orange Label Art + Advertising to Launch Social Justice Movement

UC Irvines Center of Excellence on Elder Abuse and Neglect has partnered with Orange Label Art + Advertising in Newport Beach to develop a campaign launch strategy and brand identity for Ageless Alliance: United Against Elder Abuse, a social justice movement connecting people of all age groups to identify, prevent and eliminate abuse.

The full-service integrated advertising agency played a key role in the movements brand development, to ensure that all demographics connect with the Ageless Alliance message and are motivated to join the united stand against elder abuse and neglect.

We had a vision for what a social justice movement should include but didnt know how to present it to the public, said Kerry Burnight, Ph.D. and a leader of UC Irvines elder abuse awareness and prevention efforts. Orange Label quickly understood what we wanted to accomplish and developed the messaging and tools that will allow us to be successful.

Orange Label conducted View from the Field research with older adults, caregivers and community members to gain further insight on the impact of elder abuse and neglect and to gain an understanding of the authentic language and emotions that would resonate with the community. Out of the research, Orange Label developed the movements name, positioning statement and the key core brand messages. In addition, Orange Label developed a fully integrated campaign strategy for Ageless Alliance consisting of a website, two videos and broadcast PSAs, an event flyer, email blast template, promotional items and a social media strategy leveraging Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

We were inspired by our conversations with the team at UC Irvines Center for Excellence on Elder Abuse and Neglect to make a positive difference in the lives of older adults and our nation as a whole, said Reiter, agency principal at Orange Label Art + Advertising. It was something the entire staff at Orange Label could get behind a true team effort.

The movement was launched nationally June 14 at a special White House symposium recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The White house event featured the launch of the Ageless Alliance movement by sharing the videos produced by Orange Label. The movement also launched locally on June 15 at the UC Irvine campus.

In Orange County, more than 800 reports of elder and dependent-adult abuse are made every month, said Burnight, clinical professor of family medicine at UC Irvine and co-director of the countys Elder Abuse Forensic Center, a collaboration among legal, medical, social services and law enforcement personnel to better understand, identify and treat such abuse and determine more efficient ways of successfully prosecuting offenders.

The only way to move forward in addressing the abuse and neglect of our societys most vulnerable adults is for each of us to take a stand, she said.

Elder abuse includes intentional, unintentional and neglectful acts by family, caregivers or others and comes in many forms, including sexual, physical and emotional abuse; neglect; and financial exploitation. About 5 million older Americans are abused each year, with an estimated 84 percent of cases going unreported. By providing tools and resources to help those currently suffering, Ageless Alliance empowers people to take action.

Activities include skiing, snowboarding, adventure sports, cultural events, and more. Most of these events are offered to the child as well as his/her family, and all activities are provided at no cost.

In preparation for its upcoming golf tournament event, the Shining Stars Foundation reached out to Signazon.coms Nonprofit Program, needing a variety of golf tee signs to recognize event sponsors, display the key purposes of the organization, and feature some of the children who have been a part of the foundation.
